As the second largest and second most populous continent in the world, Africa is a colossal land mass that stretches from the Mediterranean sea in the north all the way down past the equator to the southern hemisphere, where it is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and the Indian Ocean to the east. Britain once ruled a vast empire that at various points in time has stretched from the Americas in the west, all the way through to Asia and Australasia in the east. Indeed, for over a century, the British Empire was the foremost global power. But whilst most of this is now consigned to the history books, there is still a smattering of territories around the globe that act as a reminder of Britain’s historical conquests.
