Joy for impenetrable Russia

Andrey Bukhlitskiy kept only the third clean sheet in FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup history to help Russia to a 4-0 defeat of Cameroon. The result sealed the Africans’ elimination, and ensured that the winner of the Europeans’ final group game against United Arab Emirates will advance to the quarter-finals.

An own goal by Aime Yombi put Russia ahead, and Danil Khmara made it 2-0 in the closing moments of the first period. Alexey Makarov added a third on 20 minutes, before Rustam Shakmelyan put the gloss on a one-sided victory with only seconds remaining.

The result also sent Argentina through to the last eight as Group C winners.

Samara land Czech striker Koller

Russian Premier League side Samara have signed Czech striker Jan Koller from Nuremberg, who were recently relegated from the German Bundesliga, according to media reports. The 35-year-old has penned an 18-month deal with the Metallurg Stadium outfit.

Koller ended his international career after Czech Republic were eliminated in the group phase at UEFA EURO 2008. He scored 55 goals in 90 games for his country.
